Children’s Meeting: Philip Burgess

Hymn 190 - Saviour! lead us by Thy power

Prayer

Psalms 126

Zion was the nation of Israel. They were once taken captive into Babylon. They were captive to the Babylonians for 70 years. A lot of the captives who traveled from Jerusalem would’ve died in those 70 years. When it says “turn again” it means that they were allowed to return to Jerusalem. Imagine being taken away from your country and then suddenly 70 years later you were allowed to return.

Satan wants us to stay captive under him. He will do whatever it takes to keep us. When you get saved you are freed from him. You can start your new journey.

The children of Israel were so amazed they thought they were dreaming. I’m sure you would be too. When Peter was rescued from prison he thought it was a dream until he got outside.

The children of Israel were thankful and happy. They were so thankful and happy the heathen could tell that God did something great for them. There is much for us to be thankful for. We give thanks before a meal because we see how God has provided for us.

The Children of Israel asked for more blessings. Blessings like that of the streams in the south. The streams in the south started small on the top of a mountain but as they went down the mountain they got bigger and bigger. They wanted more. God wants to hear our heart’s desires. We need to pray to Him and talk to Him. Tell him anything and everything.

We also need to go forth and spread the seed. Jesus definitely did that when he was on earth. In order to harvest we must plant the seed. Helping the Lord makes us happy, even the smallest acts.

So on our journey down here let us remember to be thankful, prayerful and joyful.

Reading Meeting

John 16

Jesus had said quite a bit, but here He’s giving a reason for what He’s been saying. He’s concerned about His little band. They were going to see Him crucified and He didn’t want to see them stumble. He wanted them to press on. What He was telling them to expect didn’t sound exactly nice. One thing to note is that He isn’t teaching them the law.

Saul is a prime example of verse two. He thought that he was being true and faithful to God. It is precious that we know the Father. The One over all thing is our Father. He ministered to the multitudes and a few came out in belief. Those who didn’t thought they were bring faithful by taking the lives of those who did.

John 17:1

There is no time when we can’t do the same as Jesus and lift our eyes to the Father. We know Him and He knows us. He wants to see our joy and prosperity. We will find blessing being involved and intimate the the Lord.

Jesus was going back to the Father. He told His disciples so, but none of them asked where He was going. They seemed to think that He would set up a kingdom on earth.

Jesus wanted them to know the Holy Spirit. It is precious that we have it. He’s in us and with us. It is hard to fathom these things. A triune God manifested in this way. He gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe on Him. The Holy Spirit if referred to as the Comforter. It is not scriptural to pray to the Holy Spirit. We pray to the Lord for the Spirit to guide us.

The three things mentioned in verses eight through eleven are almost the same as what Paul was trying to convince Felix about.
