Hymn 201 - When we walk with the Lord,

Prayer

Today I want to talk about feet and walking. The Bible says a lot about those two things. I first want to start with what we shouldn’t do with our feet.

Proverbs 6:16-19

These are seven things God hates. He hates these things so much he had to write it down. One is “feet that be swift in running to mischief.” There is a lot of bad influence in the world that your feet will want to run to.

Proverbs 1:10

Entice means to encourage you to do wrong. It’s telling us not to go along with it.

Proverbs 1:16

They want to do wrong. We shouldn’t spend unnecessary time with these people.

Now let’s look at what we should do with our feet.

Proverbs 4:26

We should always think before we go to do something. If we think and seek God’s help our life will be more pleasing to Him. There is rich blessing when we go God’s way.

We can use God’s word to the light to guide our feet.

Psalm 119:105

The Bible is filled with instruction and good examples. As our hymn said… “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word, what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do His sweet will, how our hearts He can fill with his love as we trust and obey.” and “But we never can prove the delights of His love when in paths of self-leasing we stray;”

It’s easy to seek to please ourselves, but it’s so much better to be with Him. “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

We read that God is light. The world is dark but we can go to God’s work to light our way. Otherwise we will stumble.

Ephesians 5:1,2

We should walk in love. God is love. We should try to imitate that. We can show God’s love to other people. We can always be showing God’s love.

2 Corinthians 5:7

So often it’s easier to walk by sight but we are instructed to walk by faith. We need to look to Jesus for help and guidance in the pathway.

Enoch and Noah walked with God. It’s encouraging to see that it was recorded.

Colossians 1:10

We can walk worthy of Him. In french it says to please Him in every aspect. We should try our best to be fruitful in our work. If we trust Him, he will bestow on us his favour.

Let us walk in love, walk by faith and walk worthy of the Lord.

Reading Meeting

John 16:13-33

We learn of the Spirit of Truth in verse thirteen. He will tell us of things past, present and things to come. One of the special activities of the Spirit of God is to bring the glory of the Lord before us. Our Lord will always be glorified. The Spirit shows us and brings out the things that magnify Him. All this time of the chapter, there was no glory of Him to be desired, but w can know the wondrous glory to come. When Abraham’s servant was bringing Rebecca to Isaac it probably wasn’t a quite ride. He probably told her all about what Isaac had and where she was going. It’s what the Lord does for us. He reveals things to us to encourage us to keep going like the servant did for Rebecca. The Spirit guides and the Lord leads. When we remember Him it is directed by Him (it is not constructed by man) to bring glory to Him.

We can see Jesus not physically, but by faith. The Lord knew what was before Him, but it may have surprised the disciples. He had come for this reason. Jesus realized the disciples were struggling with it all. We know the whole story; they didn’t. They might have been expecting Him to set up a Kingdom.

The disciples had been looking up to Him and expecting Him to fulfill their needs of the day. Now they were learning that when He ascended He wouldn’t be there to bring their trials and troubles to. This is where verse twenty-three comes in. We can bring thing to Him in prayer and ask in Jesus’ name.

Joy seems to be an important part. Nice to see how Jesus wants His people joyful. So many other world views don’t have joy as the object. For the fullness of joy, we need to depend on Christ. He is everything you need to be happy. Peace, joy, and love is what He brings us into the enjoyment of without giving it away.
