Children’s Meeting: Norman Burgess

Hymn 333 - Come to the Saviour, make no delay;

Prayer

Paul might’ve not had the Bible but he could do miracles. During this missionary journey Paul healed a man who had been crippled from birth. The man was able to walk and leap. But where the Lord works the devil also works. The people thought that Paul and Barnabas were gods come down. They tried to worship them and offer sacrifices.

Acts 14:14-20

The apostles tried to convince them otherwise. They told them about the real God. The God who made everything.

John 17:1-3

Our God is the living God. He’s the only God that has sent His son down to earth to give eternal life.

After all this happens, the Jews ,from other cities they had preached in, came and convinced the Gentiles to stone Paul. They stoned him til they thought he was dead. We believe Paul wrote about this time when they thought he was dead in 2 Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 12:1-5

The Lord is in paradise, that’s where Paul was caught up to and that’s where we are going.

Perhaps he really did die and rose again, we don’t know. We do know that he stood up and walked back into the city.

These missionary stories are so amazing. God gave Paul special mercy and grace to fulfill what he was to. Next time we will hear about Derbe.

Reading Meeting

John 15: 18-27

The Lord is speaking here before going to the cross.

“The world” is used in different ways in the scriptures. We live in this world. We work, do business, study, etc. The world is a cosmos; it manifests God’s creative power. But it is also a system. That is the aspect of the world we shouldn’t be involved in. The world was made by God and that is when sin came into the world. In 1.John we read that we’re not to love the world. It was the hatred of the world brought against Jesus. The world shows the natural man, not one who is a Christian. Jesus was warning His group that they weren’t going to get any better treatment then Him.

Jesus told them that the other people didn’t know the true God. Ignorance might have been an excuse, but they had no clock (excuse) for their sin. Jesus was the light come to expose the sin. If they didn’t know Him they wouldn’t know they were in sin.

It is precious to have truth that we can know with certainty the reality of thing. We have a real truth to anchor too.

John 16:12-13

In our chapter He is tells of things present. In the next chapter He tells to things to come and at some point revealed things of the past. We can see that when remembering Him Sunday mornings.
