Hymn 330 - A message came from heaven

Prayer

Paul and Barnabas were at a synagogue. A synagogue is a place where Jews gather together. Paul always preached the Gospel to the Jews first then to the Gentiles.

Acts 13:37-44

The Jews had never had anyone preach to them about forgiveness and justification. They had always been taught that they need all the different kinds of sacrifices but Paul told them that the law of Moses couldn’t do this for them. He also warned them that if they didn’t believe they would parish.

The Gentiles wanted to hear this message, too. The message was for everyone. So the next Sabbath day practically the whole city came to hear Paul. The Jews were really upset about this.

There was eight people who came off Noah’s ark. Sham, Ham and Japheth were three of them. From those three men came many nations. God wanted one of those nations for himself and he choose the nation of Abraham. Through that nation His son was born to save the world. After that a new group was started in the Jewish nation, Christians. They had accepted Jesus as their Saviour and were spreading the good news about Him.This Saviour wasn’t just for the Jewish nation but also for the Gentiles.

Reading Meeting

John 14:15-31

We as individuals aren’t a trinity, but we are tripartite. We have a spirit, soul, and body. Animals don’t have a spirit, and plants only have a body. We are creatures of creation. The spirit is the highest part and through that we have to do with God. God can connect us to Himself.

Jesus told the disciples He was sending them “another Comforter”. The Lord is the first Comforter. He comforted Mary in the garden after His resurrection. But He was leaving so He was sending another Comforter. Now, it would have been nice to have the chance to be around Jesus, but Peter could be standing two feet away from Jesus and have no idea how to act. We have closer communication when we are indwelt by the Spirit. When we have the Holy Spirit things of the past may be brought to our attention.

John 15:26

This verse brings it to the present. Jesus is our High Priest and Comforter among other things.

John 16:13

We are given the spirit of adoption so we can call Him Father. We can pray because we have the Spirit. We can have fellowship with Him. We are in a network with God.

John 16:7,8

The Spirit is the one who works in those who are not saved. They rejected His Son and put Him on a cross.

Darby put it as “I will not leave you orphans”. We have a Father. It was planned long ago.
