Children’s Meeting: Andrew Burgess

Hymn 268 - There is a stream of precious blood

Prayer

The last couple times I’ve talked about small prayers with big results. Continuing with that theme today we will look at the thief on the cross.

Luke 23:39-43

The Lord was the only one of the three that didn’t deserve to hang there. He had done no crime. He had never even sinned.

Isaiah 53:5,6

It was our own sins that put Him there. He had no sin in Him but God laid ours on Him.

1 Peter 2:21-24

The Lord did no sin. People tried to get Him to sin but each time Jesus didn’t give in.

2 Corinthians 5:21

This really show the deal God made for us.

We don’t know much about the thieves that hung with Jesus but we do know that they had sinned.

Matthew 27:44

It seem that in the beginning both of the thieves were taunting Jesus, but at some time the second thief changed what he was saying. Some how he realized that Jesus was the son of God and he could save him. He knew he was getting what he deserved and that Jesus wasn’t.

Luke 23:42

There’s the small prayer but there’s so much in it. It shows his faith and just how much he seemed to know.

Romans 10:9

This is what the thief did. He confessed Jesus as Lord and believed that he would rise from the dead.

The first thief had sinned. Jesus had no sin. The second thief had sinned but he had no sin on him because he had believed in Jesus.

We might not have done some big crime but we all have sinned and we all need Jesus.

Reading Meeting (to edit)

John 20:1 -18

We often think of what Jesus did on the cross as the most important evert in history. Without the cross there would be no Salvation, but the resurrection is so necessary. The work would not have been completed without it. We can have assurance of salvation. We have a hope like the thief on the cross he was told he was gone to be in paradise.

The resurrection is the most convincing proof of Christ Himself. Everyone saw Him after His resurrection. The disciples didn’t do anything at this time, but the women did. Mary may have not know that Jesus said “He was gone to rise.”

We don’t learn about His leaving the tomb. We hear about the events around it. The disciples were locked in a room; the women were out in hostile conditions visiting the grave with spices. They were going to honour the dead body of the One they loved so much. It was still very early in the morning. The stone was rolled away from the seplecure. Jesus didn’t need the stone rolled away, it was the wat to show He was gone.

Mary ran to tell the disciples, Peter and John. Thinking someone took the body, so they both ran to the seplecure. Peter probably has mixed emotions after all he had done.

John got there first and looked into the tomb but didn’t go in. The clothes were folded having previously been in spices still lying there. When Peyer went in the napkin for His head was off by itself. Things had been done carefully. The linins had been left in perfect form and the napkin was were it should be.

I wonder if the disciples must have said now I remember; that Jesus had told them. They went home ,but Mary didn’t. She couldn’t leave cause the body had to be somewhere. Her heart is with the One she loved so much.

1 Corinthians 15:12-14

Who sleekest thou? was the same question He asked at the beginning of His ministry, now He is asking Mary Who sleekest thou? Mary’s heart was seeking for Jesus the One she truly loved.

Jesus only need to say her name and she knew His voice. The work has fully been completed we can now say our Father and our God.
