Hymn 198 - There is a Name we love to hear,

Prayer

Today we are going to add ears to the list of body parts we have been going through. Did you know that the ear has the smallest bones in your body?

Proverbs 4:20

The Lord is talking to us. What’s God’s word telling us? We all have been blessed with ears. Let us listen for God speaking with them.

Psalm 85:8

Again God is speaking to us through His word. It doesn’t have to be while reading the Bible. A verse might pop into your head during the day. That is God speaking to you. His words can bring you peace.

Psalm 143:8

We will hear lovingkindness in His word. You can especially hear it in the morning. Having some sort of Bible reading everyday will set the tone for the rest of the day.

Proverbs 1:5

God’s word will make us wiser. Learning constantly more about Him is essential for growth.

1 Samuel 3:10

Samuel’s ear was turned to listen for the Lord. His ears were open and ready

1 Samuel 3:19

Because of his open and ready ear he grew in knowledge.

It’s important to have an open ear like Samuel so that we too can hear when God speaks to us.

Luke 11:28

It one thing to hear God’s word and another thing to keep it. If you keep it you will be blessed.

John 10:27

We are his sheep and he is our shepherd. We should want to hear his voice and to follow it.

In Mark it says to take heed what you hear.

We should be careful not to listen to the world’s voice. Their are a lot of bad voices out there.

Isaiah 59:1

The Lord’s ear will always be ready to hear your cry. You can always turn to him in times of trouble and times of blessing.

I hope this has encouraged you to be more ready to listen for God.

Reading Meeting

John 19:28-42

What were the consequences of sin that Lord had to accomplish while on the cross? He was dying for us, not Himself. But not only were there the consequences, but also all the prophesies. He was the absolute perfect work. All that had been prophesied was fulfilled.

Out of all the things prophesied, you wonder why the one mentioned is Jesus asking for water. Was He really thirsty for water or us? With the woman at the well He never got drink, but He was refreshed. It wasn’t physical water He needed, but people accepting His love.

“It is finished” are very precious words. There was nothing left to be done. Salvation is a perfect work. If we try to “work” on it ourselves, we can only ruin it. On ancient receipts they would use the same words to mean “paid in full”. His purpose was to fulfill the Father’s will, so those words mean so much more.

The Dispenser of Life died on the cross for us. It wasn’t anything they did to Him that took His life. He gave it up, but, as we see, the blood still needed to flow. If He had lost all that blood before, they would have killed Him. We are saved by the blood of a dead Lord.

Some people say the breaking of bread is a type of His broken body, but none of His bones were broken. It’s interesting that it is a solider not a Jew that pierced His side. There was both blood and water. The blood removes sin and water cleanses our moral condition.

John 15:3 - The washing of water by the word.

I think verse 35 is referring to John.

John 21:24

It must have been a spectacle to see that lifeless form, but how precious that body was.
