Children’s Meeting: Phil Burgess

Hymn 82 - Ere God had built the mountains

Prayer

The Psalm we are looking at today was written by David. It’s about God’s sovereignty and control over everything.

Psalm 13:1-6

God know every move we make. He’s omniscient. Meaning he knows everything

John 1:47,48

Nathaniel was surprised but he came to learn that Jesus knew everything.

Luke 7:39

God knows even our thoughts; so we should honour Him with those too.

Psalm 139:7-12

God is everywhere. He is omnipresent.

Jeremiah 23:23-24

Genesis 28:16,17

It’s wonderful to know that he is always with us. We can’t go anywhere without God right there.

Psalm 139:13-18

God is all powerful. Think about it; he created all of us.

David not only saw that God was the reason he was alive but also that God created him for His enjoyment.

Psalm 139:19-24

David hated the wicked. He realized God was holy and without sin.

Because of all this David tried to honour God with his actions and thoughts. May God be this precious to us too.

Reading Meeting

The Jews brought Jesus to Pilate. He could give them the sentence they wanted, but they didn’t want to go into his judgement hall. This was because the Jews didn’t want to be defiled when eating the Passover. What they didn’t know was that they were trying to kill the Passover.

The Jews had no real accusation. All they had was an agenda. Their minds were already made up and they wanted to put Him to death.

Jesus spoke many times of His own death. He had said that He would be lifted up like Moses’ serpent in the wilderness. There are many times in all of the gospels that He tells of His own death. Even though He is the Giver of Life, He laid it down. He came to give us life, but man tried to take it from Him.

A malefactor is defined as an evildoer. That is so far from what Jesus really is. The Jews rewarded evil for His good.

Pilate wondered if Jesus was really the King of the Jews. He wasn’t satisfied with the Jews’ reasons and was looking to Jesus for more information.

Jesus was doing something of a spiritual nature. It went beyond this world and what everyone else was seeing. “King” would have probably struck a cord with Pilate and may have been a little more personal because he was a ruler himself.

Truth has always been the bedrock of belief, but somehow today people don’t think it’s important. It is an important basis of holiness, though. It was brought to us by the revelation of the Lord and we are sanctified by it.

Pilate stood before the embodiment of truth and asked, “What is truth?” It doesn’t seem like he wanted an answer though. He announced to the Jews he found no fault with Jesus, but when given the choice they chose to release Barabhas.
