Reading Meeting

John 17:4-26

Jesus says “I have” about ten times in this chapter. Jesus was speaking as if the work was already done although He still had to go to the cross.

It is wonderful to see on a dark night all the stars and planets in the sky. It goes all the way to His immediate presence. Think about that power and wisdom and the way He put everything together.

Psalm 19:1

Jesus came down to earth and glorified God by manifesting His love, grace, and mercy. He loves us. But as He finished His work he showed His righteousness and justice in dealing with sin. He now sits at God’s right hand with glory and honour, but He never showed so much glory to God as He did when He showed obedience in going to the cross. He glorified God, but not Himself. He received glory at the ascension. Imagine the day He left and the day He returned when He could say He had finished all the work.

Verse six shows us that Jesus came to manifest God who was unseen. We are born into the world as human kind, but Jesus received us as a gift from the Father. He came to declare the Father’s name to us. What He told them is that, whoever has seen Him, has seen the Father. That shows the intimacy of the relationship. We have the spirit of adoption and can say “Abba Father”.

The Son was talking to the Father about us and we should take notice. He was praying in the presence of His disciples. The Son was communicating with the Father and it is precious to read. The Lord realizes our weakness and preserves and keeps us.
