Children’s Meeting: Norman Burgess

Hymn 248 - O happy day, that fixed my choice

Prayer

There are several people in this room who have given out the Gospel before. We give out the Gospel to try to bring others to Christ and to teach them about Him. We have been looking at Paul’s Gospel message to the people in Antioch in Pisidia the last couple of weeks.

Acts 13:42-52

In verse 42 we can see that the people were interested in the Gospel. They wanted to learn more.

In verse 43 some started to believe. To them Paul encourage to continue in the grace of God.

Other people rejected the Gospel in verse 45. They didn’t like Paul and what he was teaching. When the people started blaspheming and contradicting Paul and Barnabas didn’t get scared They waxed bolder. They said the Jews were upset because they felt unworthy. Now Paul was going to teach the Gentiles instead.

The Gentiles were glad when they heard the word of the Lord. They glorified Him.

Verse 50 the Jews stirred up the people and started to persecute Paul and Barnabas. They expelled them out of their coasts. The disciples left happy and filled with the Holy Ghost. Everything is not always going to be okay but there is always a reason to be happy because God is over everything.

Reading Meeting

John 14:24-31

There are commandments from God we are to observe, but there are also His Words. The disciples knew what He delighted in. Those words aren’t commands or requirements, but things we can know delight Jesus.

John 15:4

Abiding - that is the association we have with Him and He with us - communication with Him. We are complete in Him.

We’ve already read about the Comforter, but in this passage we are told it’s God’s Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:9 - 3:3

The first part of verse nine is all physical.

Nobody know what goes on in anyone else’s spirit. The Spirit of God is the Spirit we receive when we are saved. It makes us able to know the deep things of God.

Verse fourteen talk of a natural man, verse fifteen talks of a spiritual man, and verse one of chapter three talk of a carnal man. The spiritual man is mature in spiritual things, but the carnal man is like a baby in regards to spiritual things.

There is a degree to which we can enter into this promise of a Comforter. This wonderful gift is available to God’s people now though at the time of this chapter it wasn’t.

John 16:3

We are connected to each other and the Head of the body which is Christ.

Jesus was able, in spite of all He went through, to have the utmost peace. IF we give something away we no longer have it, but Jesus can give us peace and still have it Himself. We can share in His peace.

In verse twenty-eight we see that, although Jesus was equal with God, He took a lower place. He could say that His Father was greater than Him.

Hymn 287 - Oh! the peace forever flowing
