Acts 13: 1-6
Back in the Old Testament the Jews only gathered to worship in Jerusalem. In the chapter we are looking at today Christians are worshiping in many places including Antioch. In the assemble at Antioch there were some very learned men. There were some teachers and prophets, too.
Brethren in our meeting minister by getting up and talking; others by talking to the unsaved. We read in the verse that the brethren ministered to the Lord. I hope we do the same on Lord’s Day morning.
At the end of the meeting the Holy Ghost asked them to send Barnabas and Saul on a mission for Him. The brothers didn’t oppose to this. They fasted and prayed for them and sent them off with their blessings and prayer.
This work wasn’t in their town, this was a whole missionary journey. They had a message for the unsaved. This fulfilled the saying that they would first preach in Jerusalem and continue unto the whole world. They started the mission in Asia; where there was little or no Christians and lots of heathens.
Romans 1:16
One of Saul’s principals was to bring the gospel to the Jews first and then to the Greek and Gentiles. So when they arrived at their destination, they went and found a synagogue to start their work.
As they continued on their journey they ran into a Jew who was a false prophet. Next time we will hear about another bad man that Saul met.
