Reading Meeting

John 11: 47-57

Not everyone believed on Jesus and they didn’t enjoy His display of divine power. The Chief Priests and the Pharisees came together to discus what had happened. They were worried that some people would follow the Lord and that wasn’t what they wanted. We know what they were up to. They wanted Him dead. Jesus was going to die, but not because He raised Lazarus from the dead. The excuse they used in verse forty-three wasn’t very valid because Rome had already taken over

Caiaphas many not have realized the extent of what he said. There may have been some sarcasm in it. He definitely struck at the core of Christianity.

“Those scattered abroad” sounds like the scattered Jewish tribes. We know it extends further to the ends of the earth.

Jesus didn’t give them any access to Him, so they couldn’t accomplish their evil deed. He went to a wilderness again. This passage sets up the timing for the rest of the book because the Lord was crucified around Passover, By chapter thirteen they are in the upper room. His heart is with His own. If the Lord continued with them we need to follow hard after Him. The Jew’s Passover - the Lord’s Passover - was one of the set feasts of Jehovah. The Passover was nigh and He was leaving, so we can understand His concern for them.

Some of the people had gone up to Jerusalem for cleansing before the Passover. They were looking around for Jesus wondering if He would come up for the Passover. They were doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

The Passover is a type of the Lord - the perfect Lamb slain. No one seemed to realized how important this one was.
