Children’s Meeting: Norman Burgess

Hymn 92 - Have you any room for Jesus,

Prayer

Last time we looked at the beginning of the story of the first time a Gentile was told the Gospel. The first gentile was Cornelius. Cornelius was a good centurion. He had done many nice things for the Jews. Peter was the one who got to give the Gospel. Both Peter and Cornelius had visions. Peter’s vision showed him that is was alright to talk to Gentiles and that he was suppose to go to Cornelius’ home. In Cornelius’ dream he was told that God had heard his prayers and that he should send for Peter.

Acts 10:24,33-45

When Peter arrives at Cornelius’ house he was there waiting for him with his family and friends. Cornelius not only wanted to hear the gospel but he also wanted his family and friends to hear it too. So after meeting and getting acquainted Peter starts his sermon.

He starts by talking about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. After that he starts preaching the Gospel. Now Peter didn’t have a sermon outline, but if he did I think this is what it would look like

SALVATION

  1. Prophecy of…
  2. Person in…
  3. People for…
  4. Path of…
  5. Provision of…

Since the beginning of the earth God had plan of salvation. He brought His only son down to earth. Jesus was going to be the salvation. This salvation is meant for everyone. The path for this is only by faith. You can’t get it by the law or by works. It’s the gift of God that you have to receive. He will wipe your sins away.

Suddenly in the middle of Peter’s sermon the Holy Ghost fell on the people. It was the same thing that happened in Jerusalem and Sameria.

This was the first gospel to the Gentiles. One day instead of the Holy Ghost coming down; we will be going up. Perhaps during another Gospel.

Reading Meeting

John 10:17-42

This chapter shows a change of dispensation. A dispensation is how God interacts/interacted with people on a certain basis at a certain time. We are in the dispensation of grace. We are brought into the flock by grace and are no longer under the law. Salvation is open to everyone in the world. We can be brought into a oneness with the Holy Spirit of God. Nothing else can compare to that. All Christians are brothers and sisters in Christ and God sees us as one. In heaven all the differences we have will be gone.

The Lord talks about His Father and how they are one. Many different religions have a hard time with a triune God Head. According to verse thirty there are at least two who are One. Much of this is beyond what we can understand because we’re only human, but sometimes we need to let our minds be boggled about things like this. When was the last time you thought about what holds the universe together? Everything from atoms to spinning planets are all so much bigger than us. We are brought into something bigger then us and can just float in the wonder of it all.

There is a oneness in the God Head we can’t understand. God can be seen in the person of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God was manifested in heaven and earth. He accomplished the work on Calvary’s cross making atonement for sin. It was a work of the God Head. They not only love each other, but they are also the origin of love.

No one killed Jesus. He gave His life willingly and of Himself. He had the authority and right to do it.
