Reading Meeting

John 8:22-36

Jesus says that He’s from above not from heaven. He said the same thing to Nicodemus. John the Baptist used the same language.

Colossians 3:1

The “thing which are from above” is what should be occupying us. Jesus also shows them that their ends are different as well. Everything Jesus said and did was/is consistent with who He is and where He came from. He was a living show case of an invisible God. He made a claim to deity in verse twenty-four that they might have missed. The “He” is in italics, which means He originally said, “that I am”. He had been ” I Am” since Moses’ time. It wasn’t I was, am, and will be. It’s always been I Am. It’s an eternal claim of deity.

Truth isn’t valued today. Preference and feelings seem to be more important. But One from above came down and gave us truth. We can say that the Bible is true, but we can also say God is true (3:32,33). You will never find anyone from beneath who can always state the exact truth. God is omniscient and knows the end from the beginning. He is divine. Who else has risen from the dead, come back alive to his people, ascended into heave, and sent his Holy Spirit? It is all divine; there’s nothing human about it.

I wonder if the belief of verse thirty was a true belief and not just say so. Verse thrity-one shows us what a true disciple is.

Acts 13:43, 14:21 & 22

2 Timothy 3:14

It’s easy to fatigue, get tired, and give up, but we need to continue and go on with the Lord. The heart and mind need to abide in a spirit of dependence.

Hymn 201 - When we walk with the Lord
