Children’s Meeting: Philip Burgess

Hymn-355- Safe in Christ, the weakest child

Prayer

In life we schedule things; just like that God has a time table in His word. Currently we are in “the day of grace”. The prophecy of this Psalm has not yet happened.

Psalm 29

This Psalm is split into 3 different categories.

  • Verses 1,2 - Worship
  • Verses 3-9 - Storm
  • Verses 10,11 - Calm

Vv. 1 & 2 - Back in David’s day the kings, princes and mighty people were called to give praise to God. Nebuchadnezzar praised himself for his mightiness and God made him live like a wild animal for 7 years. God gives us what we have and we ought to praise and thank him for it, not ourselves.

Vv. 3-9 - The storm we get in these verses is foretelling the judgement that’s going to happen to Israel. We think of Noah when God brought down judgement on the earth during that time; you wonder what David was seeing when he wrote this.

These verses keep repeating the phrase “the voice of the Lord” God’s voice has power. When Jesus was here on earth he calmed the sea, healed people and raised Lazarus with just His voice.

V. 10 & 11 - Jesus was treated shamefully and killed when he was down here. The Jews wanted Jesus to come as a king, but that wasn’t the time. He’s going to come back one day as a powerful king. When he comes back Satan will be bound and we will be reigning with Him, there will be peace and calm.

In our own personal lives there will be storms, in which God wants to talk to you. In the storm God wants us to worship him and recognize him. When we do God will bring the calm and peace.

As we go through these Psalms about the future we can be thankful for the time we are in, but also look forward to the future.

Reading Meeting

John 7:32-53

The Spirit of God is shown in chapters 3, 4, and 7 of John. We are given the Spirit of God in order to worship. In chapter three it flows inward, in chapter four it goes vertical, and in seven it is horizontal. All three references use figurative language. The Spirit of God acts like a spring of water that has power. It is a blessing that by new birth we are indwelt by that Spirit.

In chapter seven we have the feast of the tabernacles. Jesus didn’t go to manifest Himself. He went up secretly and on the eighth day He taught in the temple. That was supposed to be the most joyful day in Israel. But no one understood what Jesus was trying to tell them. Jesus saw a thirsty and famished people. They seemed void of joy. They had made it the feast of the Jews and not the feast of Jehovah. Jesus tried to invite them to come to Him.

Verse thirty-eight should be an encouragement to those who desire to be a testimony. We can share with others about the water of the Word.

Jesus was an enigma to His own family and nation. They couldn’t understand He was going to die and rise again. They didn’t even agree with one another on who He was. Jesus message was good news, but some people wanted to lay hands on Him. The officers that the Pharisees had sent to take Him came back empty handed. It must have been precious to hear the Lord give out a Word. The officers said, “We’ve never heard anything like this”. The Pharisees weren’t happy about that. They were probably worried that others had believed as well. Nicodemus speaks up on Jesus behalf, but the others remind him that a prophet never came from Galilee.
