Hymn 343 - Jesus is our Shepherd Prayer
We’ll look at probably the most well known Psalm today: Psalm 23.
Psalm 23.
David wrote this Psalm. He was a shepherd when he was young. so this is a shepherd writing about his Shepherd. David knew how to take care of, protect, and provide for his sheep, and here he brags about having the Lord as his shepherd. If we know the Lord as our Saviour, then He is our Shepherd as well.
1.Provision. Vv1-2. This first verse is like the title of the Psalm. The Lord will give us all that we need: He will provide for us. He will fulfill our temporal needs. David gave his sheep what they needed, and knew that the Lord would provide for Him both spiritually and physically. The still waters can remind us of the water of the word, which refreshes us. The sheep also rested in the green pastures, with plenty to eat. In the same way, the Lord will provide for our path, and take care of us.
V6. Some say that goodness and mercy are like sheep dogs; they encourage the strangling sheep. The Lord has mercy and grace for us, not giving us what we deserve, and encouraging us to keep following Him. He know if we get off track we will get hurt. In the future, we will go to be with Him. Heaven is a real place, and we will be there with Jesus for Eternity. I hope we can all say that the Lord is our shepherd!

John 6:13-27
The disciples were able to gather up the fragments of the bread after the five thousand had eaten. The Lord provided so much and every fragment was worth saving. We can gather up the fragments given to us in scripture. We need all of it. Gather up the fragments that nothing be lost. The Lord gives over and above.
Verse fourteen could be referring to Psalm 132 as well as Moses’ prophesy in Deuteronomy. It was right for them to be expecting a prophet, but then they wanted to make Jesus a king. Jesus wasn’t taking a realm from man. He will receive a Kingdom from His Father at the right time, and the right place.
Numbers 11:21 can be paralleled with disciples unbelief. The Lord gave then and He gave here.
The disciples crossing in the boat by themselves is probably a picture of the Jewish remnant during the tribulation. After they go through various sufferings the Lord will come to them. Jesus entering the ship is the time of the Kingdom. But we do have winds and storms in our everyday life. Storms can bring division among assembles. It is precious to know that the Lord is here through it all.
The people were looking for more bread. Jesus had more then bread. He was the Bread of Life. His is both life giving and satisfying. Instead of looking for bread they should have been looking for the One to give them life.
Jesus had done something supernatural; the people didn’t turn to Him, but to what He produced. God supplies all our needs, but He has something for us beyond that that we should be looking for. We should love the Giver not just the gift.
