Galatians 6:14 — what is Paul saying here? Is he saying he’ll glory in the piece of wood that stood on Calvary? No, but how do I know that? Because of what it says in v. 15; a piece if wood can’t make someone a new creature. We can glory, like Paul, in the Lord’s work.

Reading Meeting

Hebrews 2:16-18 • V 14 – It almost seems that since the Lord conquered Satan, he is no longer around. He is very much around. Pharaoh is a picture of death. Amelek is a picture of the flesh. The seven nations in Canaan are a picture of the wiles of the devil. These are different powers of Satan. • David defeated Goliath with Goliath’s own weapon. The Lord did the same by conquering Satan through death. He neutralized the bondage of death; for Christians, Satan’s power of death is destroyed. • V. 17 – In v. 14, He is made like us to destroy the Devil, now he is like us to be a merciful high priest. • To make reconciliation for the sins of the people - the apostle is making mention of the Day of Atonement, where the high priest went into the Holy of Holies to make atonement “for the sins of the people”. But that fell so short of what we have now. We don’t have to wait for a day of atonement. We can confess our sins every day. That was one of the pictures in the wilderness. Other pictures include the Passover, signifying being redeemed by blood; Moses smiting the rock is a picture of the Lord being smitten for us. Moses speaking to the rock shows how we can speak to our “Rock” as priests. The brazen serpent portrays the Lord’s death to save us. Then there were prophesies, like Isaiah 53, foretell Jesus’ coming. All this was fulfilled at Calvary. • In order to make reconciliation, He Himself had to suffer; Aaron had the blood of a bullock when he went into the Holy of Holies. We have to somehow grasp how Christ is the sacrifice, the priest, and the altar to do this work. It was totally his involvement. • V. 18 – every possible trial that we can go through was gone through by the Lord. EG Hymn 42 – “The great Physician now is near,” Prayer
