Exodus 3:7, 8—“I am come down to deliver them.” Then after they are redeemed: Exodus 15:1, 2—“He is become my salvation.”

Ministry –Norman Burgess

Can we turn back to the passage in Exodus? In chapter 3 our brother read vv. 7 & 8 – And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians…It’s sort of interesting, it doesn’t say that the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of their taskmasters, it just says they cried; but God still heard them. In chapter 15, it’s a different story: now they are a redeemed people, redeemed by blood and power. They saw the Red Sea close in on their enemies, then they worship the Lord. How precious, their hearts have been lifted. They sing, not of bondage, but of the wonderful works we have been seeing this morning. Recently, in Children’s Meeting, our brother has been teaching ‘The Lord is my…’ The children of Israel have a few endings: Strength, Song etc. They say, “Wonderful is the work, glorious is the Person!” I hope this morning we’ve been able to give the Lord joy in hearing the praise of His own, out of hearts that are overflowing.

EG Hymn 7 – “My hope on nothing less is built” Prayer The Lord is my… Rock- Psalm 18:2 Proverbs 30:6— Conies here are referring to an animal called a Syrian Hyrex, which looks something like a groundhog with back legs like a rabbit. They can’t dig, and the area where they live is quite rocky, so they live among rocks. They live in groups; some look for food while others watch for danger. When danger comes, they hide in the rocks. The Lord is our Rock, or refuge from the dangers of life. We can build our lives on the Lord, Who doesn’t change, like everything else around us. Proverbs 3:5, 6 —like the wise man who built his house on the rock, we must look to the Lord for guidance. Proverbs 28:26 — this is what a foolish man does. To live like a wise man, you must follow the Lord’s ways.

Reading Meeting

Hebrews 2:9-18 • Chapter 1 shows the superiority of the Son. Chapter 2 shows the humility of the Son. • The first part of Hebrews 2 is a warning, v. 3. Then God asked a question, what is man? God’s man is Jesus, and we see Jesus. God brings the Lord before us as the man who takes up where man failed in the Garden of Eden. Man lost his authority over the earth. God’s man picked that up. • “It became Him”— It is becoming to the eternal God to pick up poor creatures like us! It is becoming to Him to bring many Sons to glory. • In Jesus was “the fullness of the Godhead bodily”, each member of the trinity was pleased to dwell in Him in human form; but if he hadn’t gone to the cross, we wouldn’t have been able to know that. • “…bringing many sons to glory”— when we die, we go to heaven; but it’s not just heaven, its glory, where there is nothing that can be called sin. • Jesus took our cause up to God because we couldn’t do it ourselves. • About the chart entitled: “The Man” for “The Many” [see chart on the next page] Romans 5:18, 19, Therefore, as by the offence [or mistake] of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [Jesus] the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Jesus was one Man who made Eternal life possible for many. • “Captain of their salvation (Darby, leader) — a leader is only a leader if he has followers. A leader leads by example; a captain may sit in the office and give orders, a leader is out at the front giving inspiration. • V. 11—Sanctification is simply being set apart for God’s holy purpose. When you get saved, you get sanctified; it is part of God’s “great salvation”. It’s not like the chaos theory, it’s by design. God chose each of us and set us apart. This happens through the Lord Jesus Christ, because He had set Himself apart. • John 17:17-19— When we get hold of the truth (get saved); we act differently than we did before we believed. Jesus is the living truth. We hold the written truth. • “Brethren”— We are all sons (or daughters) of God. This allows Jesus to call us His brethren; but He is still our Lord. When you get enough sons and daughters together you have a family, enjoying fellowship. As Christians, we are like a family and we need fellowship with each other. EG Hymn 259 – “Rock of Ages!
